I was tasked with setting up a test environment for your network team. So we installed windows 2008 64 bit enterprise edition on one of the inhouse servers. Here is the process:
1. Go tohttps://www.vmware.com/freedownload/p/download.php?product=server20 and download the latest version of Vmware Server 2.0.
2. Go through the install screens leaving everything to default. -- One thing to keep in mind is when going through the installer if your doing it via rdp you will get booted out right before it finishes. You will need a monitor, keyboard and mouse to finish the install.
Thats pretty much it. A few things to keep in mind the url's to access the web interface:
http://yourserver:8222
https://yourserver:8333
Another point of interest is that if you plan on installing 64 bit GUEST operating sytems your processor must support VT. If it does not support VT then you will be stuck with a 64 bit host os that will only allow you to install 32 guest operating systems. I would check either AMD's or Intels website to ensure the processor supports VT before making your purchase.
